Article: "Her world's a stage" - 'IN' section

Question 1
=>Do you consider yourself an artistic person?

Answer:
I dont think i am a artistic person, because i am not talented in art and i dislike performing on stage.

Question 2
=> What are your opinions of the theatre scene in Singapore?

Answer:
My opinions of the theatre scene in singapore is good, the facilities there is able to let those who are talented to perform well.

Article: "Drink-and-Eat MRT Riders on the rise" - "IN" Section

Question1
=> How do you feel about MRT commuters eating and drinking blatantly on the train?

Answer:
I felt that they are very inconsiderate. They only care for themselve and never think of the consequences. If they accidentally drop their food and spill their drink, cleaner will have to clean it up for them, they does not spare a thought for the cleaner.

Article: "I was an addict" - 'IN' section

Question 1
=>(a) What are some of the earlier signs mention in the article to indicated that a person is addicted to gaming?

Answer:
There are many signs mention in the article like, skipping meal, not sleeping, even want to skip schools so that they can spend those precious time for gaming. There is more sign such as saving money to buy items in the games and keep talking about game wherever they goes and started to imagine it when they were doing something else.

=>(b) State some of the methods listed by the author to overcome the addiction to gaming.

Answer:
The author suggested that game addicted should go out and get some exercise. This game addicted also must learn to socialise more by talking to their friends about other things besides gaming. Get someone to lock up th computer if there is a need to. Game addicted need to persevere, the cannot give up easily so as to break the habits.

Question 2
=> What are some of your reaction after reading this article? If a close friend of yours confesses to you that he/she is addicted to online games, what would you advice to him/her be?

Answer:
I find that it is a little ridiculous to addict to gaming especially spending money on stuffs in the game. i feel that addiction is very scary. It may bring about alot of harmful effects.

If i have a friend who is an addict, i will try to advise him/her to pay more attention in studies. I will try to prevent her from touching computer by asking him/ her out. I will talk to her more about what will happens if she continues to be like this. How will she be affected in future and ways to solve this problems.

=> What were the reasons given by facebook parent, Rashida Husia, when she requests access to the networking sites and also to what her student had put online?

Answer:
She want to know about what kind of friends her children had made friend with. And using that to in a form of encouraging and cheer them up when she find there is a need to.

Question 2
=> Do you think it is a good idea to accept requests by parent to add them readily to your friends' list on the facebook? Why?

Answer:
I find that it was not a bad idea for children to accept parent request, this will not only let your parent know more about you and it will also let us feel that there is someone who cares for us.

Article:"HFMD cases near epidemic level"-'home' section(pg B3)

Question 1
=>How does HFMD spread and what are some of the preventive measures that the childcare centres and kindergartens have taken to ensure that the disease is contain?

Answer:
HFMD is spread through children aged 10 years and younger by body fluids, like saliva. Which is why it can be passed quickly among young children who share toys that they may have put into their mouths.

Some of the safety preventive measures that childcare centres and kindergartens take are, spending extra money to clean its premises every quarter, just like what the church of the holy trinity kindergarten in Tampines does. There is also another ways of preventing HFMD from happening, such as sanitised and do thoroughly cleaning before every session to aviod a repeat if last year's incident. Children have been drilled into a routine of heading straight to the toilet to wash up and clean their hands with a sanitiser before classes and meal. Last but not least, children with fever,spots and ulcers are sent home and their parents are told to take them to doctors.

Question 2
=> In your opinion, what implications will the childcare centres face if the HFMD issue escalates further?

Answer:
The childcare centre will have to closed down for a period of time to make sure they had play their part in cleaning all the stuffs.

Article: “Sorry guys, these lots are not for you” – ‘Home’ Section (Pg B1)

Question 1
=>What were some of the reasons cited in the article why there was a need to have parking lots for women only in these buildings?

Answer:
The reasons cited in the article is, it is more convenient and they only have to walk up the ramp to reach the entrance to the hotel lobby, as well as it is also less tiring for women, especially they are in heels.

Question 2
=>(a) In your opinion, do you think it is necessary to allocate parking lots for women only? Why?

Answer:
No, i dont think there is a need to have carpark for women only, this is because they should be fair by making it for parent who have children below the age of 1o, but not trying to be ladies-baised.

=>(b) Which group of people do you then feel should be allocated such priority parking? Explain.

Answer:
I find that the lots should be meant for people like pregnant women, those elderly as well as the parent who are bring their young children out.

Article: “Help for single mums in downturn” – ‘Main’ Section (Pg A4-5)

Question 1
=>What project was launched to help single mums? Briefly explain what is this project about?
Answer :
The project is known as WeCare for U. It is about helping divorcees,widows and others single mother who not only have a tougher time juggling work and family, but also find it hard to get help. Beside, helpin those out of work to find jobs, they also encourage those work unable to go out to work to make use of their skills, like baking or sewing, so as to generate income, so that they were able to support herself and her children.

The project also give the mother a comprehensive guidebook, as to let them know how and where to get help, such as custody, care and maintenance of children; where to seek help for family violence; the telephone numbers of various support organisation.

Lastly, they planned the labour movement include a weekly reading programme for children, educational outing during school holidays, and talkibg on parenting, legal issues and financial matters.

Question 2
=>Imagine you come across a single mum who is unemployed, what are some advices you can give her? Who can she turn to?

Answer:
If i come across a single mum who is unemployed, i will advice them to either looking for a job on their own or ask someone they are close to help them find one. If possible, find a job with stable income so that they were able to support their children monthly.

She can turn to their kins, friends or even get help from the helpline, just like the NTUC's Woman's Development Secretariat.

Strait Time Reflection (week 5)

Article: "NTU death fall" - Home (pg B6)

Question 1
=> What are some indications which showed that the victim was facing problems before he committed the rash act?

Answer:
He began behaving strangely, he played computer games for many hours and also never revised for his upcoming examination, he did not do his project and he even cut off all communication with his friends. He did not reply in his MSN messenger too. His Asean Scholarship was revoked that might led him to commit the rash act.

Question 2
=>(a) Is it stressful being a student in Singapore? Explain.


Answer:
I find that being a student in singapore is quite stressful because there are many strong competitors from all over the world. Beside, we started school early in the morning and had to end school in the late evening. Moreover, tests and examinations were all squeezed together continuously. There is less form of entertainment as compared to other countries. There were actually children as young as 5 to 6 years old, started attending tuition.

=>(b) What are some problems you face as a student which add to your stress level?

Answer:
The tests and quizzes that I had in a day had causes me stressed. The competitive classmates that I study with also makes me felt rather stressed. The good results that my brother had gotten and I does not want to let my parents dissapointed. At the same time, they expect me to achieve as good as my brother had achieve had contribute stress to me too.

Article: “Ink Corporated” – ‘IN’ Section (Pg 8-9)

Question 1
=>What are some reasons stated in the article why some people choose to have body art like tattoos or piercings done on part of their body.

Answer:
They reasons are, they want to look different from others and want to show others that they have the courage as well as they willing to sacrifise. Secondly, they want to attract the attention to others and express to themselves and stand out of the crowd. They also mention that although they are afraid of pain, but they does not want to miss chance, they does not want to live in a feeling of afraid to try. There are also people who wants body art because they were influenced and they think that they are smart, having a tattoos or piercing with them.

Question 2
=>(a)What are some impressions you would form of a person whose body is covered with tattoos?

Answer (a): To me, there are two views for people who had tattoos. One of the view is, they are sensing people that they are gangster. People tend to afraid ones who had tattoos on their body as they look fierce. Second view is that they are actually artistic and modern because nowadays tattoos are form of body arts. This is why those who had tattoos on them, does not have a thinking that they are belonging a gang as tattoos is already very common and popular in some of the country.

=>(b)Would you consider getting a tattoo in future? Why?

Answer (b) I will not consider to have a tattoo in future. Having tattoo is toying with various risks, such as ugly scars and keloids. It cause pain and itchiness. Having tattoos are causing equal damage to our blood vessels and nerves. Infections occurred too. Between, it was a waste of money and time. It affected future as no company would want to employ one who have tattoos. It is very difficult to make friends and communicate with other as people are afraid of you and might think that you belongs to a gang.
